"Don't become one of those boring adults who doesn't ask questions."
— Captain to Ashley

Cliff Fox, simply known as the Captain, is a major character in Another Code: Two Memories. He appears as an old man whose life has belonged to the sea for a long time.

Personality[]

He is portrayed as warmhearted and easily confident.

Appearance[]

Captain (Cliff Fox) is an elderly man. He is shown with white facial hair.

Another Code: Two Memories[]

He wears a lightly colored shirt over a designed long sleeved light blue and white collared top, a pair of shorts and gray sandals. Additionally, he has a red hat that he wears on backwards.

Another Code: Recollection[]

Like in the original Two Memories, he wears a designed long sleeved light blue and white collared top, along with his red hat but he has a lighter colored shirt underneath the top, dark gray pants and brown shoes as well.

Another Code: Two Memories[]

The Captain steers the boat that takes Ashley Mizuki Robbins and her aunt, Jessica Robbins, to Blood Edward Island. When they arrive, Ashley's father, Richard Robbins is nowhere to be found. Jessica tells Ashley to wait for her while she searches for Richard. While waiting, Ashley has a chat with the Captain. During their conversation, it was said that he became a sailor before she was born. Eventually, Ashley also decided to leave the landing place since Jessica didn't return.

The Captain is not seen again until the end of the game, when he awaits Ashley, now reunited with her father, and Jessica on a bay at night. Unlike Richard and Jessica, the Captain is able to see Ashley's ghost companion D, even though he is an adult, implying that the elderly man has a pure heart and can still believe in people. He doesn't even appear to be surprised by D's presence and that he is seeing a ghost, although it's possible his eyesight is just bad and it is also night.

Trivia[]

  • Depending if the player is playing Another Code or Trace Memory, he says different things in each version.
    • In Another, Captain says, "Don't think that there has to be a logical explanation for anything." In Trace, he instead tells her not to become a boring adult who does not ask questions.
    • In Another, after giving Ashley candy, he tells her not to tell her aunt. In Trace, Captain tells her not eat it all at once so she doesn't get a stomach ache.
    • In Another, Captain tells Ashley growing up is tiring work, while in Trace, he says something very different about how part of growing up means being tired. Ashley then replies, "Well, I must be ancient then, because I'm exhausted!"
  • In Another Code, he is simply called the captain, while Trace Memory uses Captain like a nickname.
    • In Another Code: Recollection, the Captain's real name was revealed to be Cliff Fox in the end credits.
  • In Hotel Dusk: Room 215, the husband of the maid, Rosa Fox is heavily implied to be the Captain seen in Another Code. A photo of him in Rosa's room shows the man, naturally much younger at this point, with a similar outfit as in Another Code. He is told to be a sailor as well. Rosa states she has not seen him since many years. She and her husband have a son who lives far away from Hotel Dusk.
    • It is confirmed that he is Rosa's husband in Another Code: Recollection. Recollection also has a photo of Bob alongside Fox, with Ashley speculating that the two men are brothers.
